this book had ace characters mixed wonderfully with an absorbing storyline, which is sort of ruined with bad words and way-too-weird scenes by the less lovable characters.

this is a book about a non-perfect family who is trying to survive day after day.

role models: Zoran, the kid’s au pair, is loving, dependable, true, logical, and steady.

language:  there is one word (two depending on your culture) that is used a few times.

drugs:  there is one point where the older sister of the main character comes home drunk, the dad also gets drunk.

violence:  a grown man punches a boy in the face. a girl bumps her head and it gets bloody. a girl gets hit by a truck about three years before the book begins.

crime:  a boy steals a candy bar promising a friend he’ll pay for it later.

kissing:  there’s a few kissing scenes in private and public.

crude:  one time a girl gets so scared she pees on the floor. also a girl’s pants split.

sex:  at one point the main character thinks her sister is pregnant but it terns out to be something completely harmless.
