This is a really good, fast paced classic with a repeated-history theme focusing on tyranny.

like this? try: Coming Up for Air by George Orwell.

Sebastian the werewolf’s review:

This book is about a group of farm animals who rebel against the humans.

role models:  some of the animals like to work and see a job finish, some care about the other animals a lot, most of the animals do there fare share of work without complaining.

violence:  some animals (and a few humans) get hurt or killed. mostly in battles.

sex:  some dogs have puppies. some pigs have piglets with a small non-graphic mention of their “parentage”.

drinking:  the pigs sometimes drink alcohol.

bad role models:  the humans don’t treat their animals well. the pigs use lying and/or threats to convince the other animals of certain things.

I remember thinking this book was so weird. I love the anthropomorphism used by Orwell. How do you think this book compares to his other historical-based books like 1984? Some writers, like Tolkein, for example, seem to have “type” in terms of the kinds of stories they write. Do you think Orwell has a similar consistent topic theme across his works?
